The three of us have been friends for a long time. We actually started off playing in a band together, but as language teachers, we have now traded the stage in for a YouTube channel to share our passion for English and language learning with you.
Hi! My name is John, and I am from the United States. When I was in high school, I was planning to become a doctor, but that all changed when I met a German girl at college (typical), moved to Europe (exciting), and began learning languages (fascinating).
Even though it wasn’t my original plan, I ended up getting a master’s degree in German, Spanish, Italian, and English, and later I did my PhD in teaching English as a Foreign Language. Now I’ve been teaching English for 25 years, and I am a proud “language nerd” who is thrilled to be helping a more global audience with developing their English abilities on YouTube.
Hi everyone! As the linguist in the team, I’m not afraid to say that I LOVE grammar and everything else there is to discover about language. In more than fifteen years of teaching English and linguistics at university, I’ve been trying to share this enthusiasm with my students.
During my studies and my PhD research, I lived in both England and the United States, but because I’m a native speaker of German, I can really appreciate English from a learner’s perspective. So I hope you enjoy the learning materials that I create for English Abilities, which is what I do when I’m not dabbling as a barista, a cook or a guitarist/singer 🙂
Hi guys! My name is Ian, and I am from the United Kingdom. I received my Master’s in teaching languages and have been teaching English for 20 years now. I truly love everything about it. What I like the most though is explaining a language’s mechanics as well as helping English language learners understand the cultures in which English is spoken.
I believe that we can take your language skills to the next level through our online lessons and learning material. I therefore really look forward to helping every one of you improve your English abilities. So, join us and remember to take it one lesson at a time. Happy learning!
